Blue Dolly Favorites
- Stage boxes and light items – Move packed boxes and lighter belongings to the main floor or garage. This shortens trip times to and from the truck.
- Set aside fragile items – Place décor, electronics, and personal valuables in a designated spot or your personal vehicle for extra protection.
Boxing Inventory
- Box everything you can – Any item that fits in a box should be packed in one. Loose items slow the process and create more trips.
- Consolidate small containers – Place smaller boxes (like shoeboxes) into larger ones to keep things organized.
- Seal every box – Close and tape boxes securely so movers can safely stack them in the truck.
- Label clearly – Mark each box by room, and label fragile boxes with "FRAGILE" so they get extra care.
Preparing Furniture
- Disassemble large items – Break down bed frames, dresser mirrors, cribs, and exercise equipment before moving day to save time. If you'd prefer, our Blue Dolly crew can handle all assembly and disassembly for you!
- Empty fragile items from drawers – Remove any delicate or breakable belongings from dresser/file drawers.
- Clear surfaces – Take lamps, décor, electronics, and all other miscellaneous items off tables, dressers, and shelves so movers can wrap and move them right away.
Décor Preparation
- Pack décor items – Carefully box up all home décor that can fit inside a box to keep it safe and easy to transport.
- Take down wall art – Remove all pictures and artwork from the walls and place them together in one area of your home for easy pickup.
- Point out fragile artwork – Let the moving crew know if you have any especially delicate pieces. Artwork boxes can always be added for extra protection.
Garage & Basement Preparation
- Box what you can – Place all items that fit into a box inside one. This makes loading faster and safer.
- Declutter before moving day – Clean out and dispose of any items you no longer want. Fewer items mean less to move, saving you time and money.
- Set aside items that stay – Gather things like paint cans, touch-up supplies, or extra building materials and keep them separate so they don't get loaded by mistake.
- Separate hazardous materials – Movers cannot transport items like paint, propane, chemicals, or other hazardous materials. Please plan to move these yourself or dispose of them safely before moving day.
Parking
- Clear the driveway and garage – Move cars out of the garage and driveway so the moving truck can park close and the crew has easy access.
- Reserve parking if needed – If parking is limited at your home or building, save or reserve spots in advance so the moving truck has a place to park nearby.
TVs and Electronics
- Remove TVs from mounts – Take down any televisions from walls or mounts before moving day so they're ready to be wrapped and loaded.
- Use TV/monitor boxes – Have proper TV or monitor boxes ready to ensure safe transport. If you'd like to add these to your move, let the Blue Dolly team know before moving day.
- Transport small electronics yourself – If you have space, move items like computer monitors, printers, iPads, and other delicate electronics in your own vehicle for extra protection.
